SOLARIS Workshop 2026 - Advancing Solar Circularity

On April 22, 2026, the SOLARIS workshop on sustainability in photovoltaics will bring together experts, researchers, and industry representatives from across Europe to jointly develop solutions for a circular and sustainable photovoltaic economy.

Led by renowned research institutions such as Fraunhofer ISE and CEA-INES, the workshop will create a platform to discuss topics related to sustainable and resource-efficient PV in Europe and present the latest developments from the EU-funded SOLARIS project and offer practical strategies for the entire life cycle of photovoltaic technologies.

 

The workshop will include sessions on the following topics and will be hosted by CEA-INES:

 

  • LCA and environmental assessment with presentations from the SOLARIS project, current information on the development of photovoltaics in France (ADEME) in connection with the certification process (Certisolis), and an LCA tool for recycling lead from tandem cells (FHNW).
  • End-of-life management (EoL), including developments in recycling and forecasts for PV waste (EU projects EVERPV, APOLLO) as well as automated diagnostic repairs for reuse and recycling (Second Cycle).
  • Sustainability of PV, including the development of a social life cycle assessment (Becquerel Institute), ESG, environmental responsibility, social justice, and quality and reliability (Global Electronics Council, EPEAT).
  • Panel discussion: How can we promote both innovation and sustainable practices along the entire value chain?

 

Participants include representatives from industrial manufacturing, operations, and maintenance (O&M), and EoL management, including reuse and recycling.
