In 2027, the 17th SOPHIA Workshop on PV Module Reliability will be hosted by ODTÜ-GÜNAM (Middle East Technical University – Center for Solar Energy Research and Applications) in Ankara, Türkiye. As the solar energy research center of METU, ODTÜ-GÜNAM provides an excellent setting for international scientific exchange, combining advanced research infrastructure, extensive expertise in photovoltaics, and strong links to both academia and industry.
Established in 2009, ODTÜ-GÜNAM has become one of Türkiye’s leading research infrastructures for solar energy technologies. Its multidisciplinary activities span silicon and emerging photovoltaic technologies, solar modules, power electronics, system integration, testing and characterization, as well as outdoor performance evaluation. Through state-of-the-art laboratories, pilot-scale production facilities, and dedicated testing infrastructure, the center supports both fundamental research and the transfer of innovation into industrial applications. Its comprehensive testing, characterization, and outdoor evaluation capabilities provide a strong foundation for research on PV module reliability and long-term field performance.
ODTÜ-GÜNAM is actively engaged in national and international research initiatives and collaborates with leading organizations across the photovoltaic value chain. Its partnership with Fraunhofer ISE further strengthens joint efforts in research, technology development, and the industrial deployment of next-generation photovoltaic solutions.
The SOPHIA Workshop series brings together researchers, manufacturers, certification bodies, and industry experts working on photovoltaic reliability. Hosting the 2027 edition at ODTÜ-GÜNAM creates an ideal opportunity to connect the workshop’s scientific discussions with the center’s expertise in testing, characterization, and performance assessment of photovoltaic technologies.
